WHAT IS ANXIETY?Anxiety is a complex response mechanism that put us in an alert manner in front of events that we can observe like dangerous or aversive (these can be: unpredictable or uncountable events). This response mechanism includes an activation of the nervous, cognitive and behavioral system. However, when anxiety is indiscriminately presented (that means, without a visible danger), with a great intensity, exceeding, with a big helplessness feeling, showing dysfunctional thoughts, presenting hyper sensibility to stimulus up to paralyze a person in the daily activities, we can say we are talking of an anxiety disorder.
CAUSES:The reasons can be one or the combination of several causes, so we can say that it is multi factorial. So you can learn a little more about this, I will mention some of these:
- Sensitive nervous system
- Traumatic events
- Substance abuse
- Significant life experiences
SYMPTOMS:The following symptoms can be emotional, cognitive or physical. For the purpose you understand a little bit more about what happens, read them and go with a specialist if you have more than two symptoms. PHYSICAL: sweating, legs trembling, paralysis, excessive sweating, dizziness, faints, indigestion, diarrhea, stomach ache, tiredness, headache, tachycardia, palpitations, breathing difficulties, muscular tension and dry mouth. COGNITIVE: ruminative thinking, concentration problems, sleep problems, appetite problems, negative thoughts about yourself, about your behave with others, difficulty to make decisions. EMOTIONAL: excessive preoccupation, irritability, fears to lose control, insecurity. BEHAVIORAL: abuse in eating and smoking, smoking, avoid frighten situations and people, to paralyze, repetitive movements in any part of the body, difficulty to stay still, hyper vigilance, impulsiveness, difficulty to relax, stuttering.
