WHAT IS DEPRESSION?
It is a very well- known and diffused affective disorder, known as one of the affective disorders more frequently presented in people. It´s a psychic disturbance (it present sadness, demoralizer, low self- esteem) that impact in the self- vision, the vision that we have of other people and of the word. There´s a big difference between sadness (functional and adaptive emotion) and depression, which can get you to death. Let´s remember that depression is an illness, that can be understandable, can be treated and cured, and in this way the persona can have more fully and with more quality life. It is also important to consider that in life we have episodes of sadness or frustration events, those emotions can be shown in a natural manner as a part of a loss affective process, negative events or stressing events; when symptoms extend more than six months, the episode become a Depression Disorder, so it will be necessary to contact a specialist.
CAUSES:
Depression is formed with the interaction of different elements (psychological, biological, social and situational) it can also have a genetic element, which is, that it´s transfer from parents to sons by genes. The Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy postulate that depression is given by a group of dysfunctional thoughts and as unsuccessful information processing that maintains the dysfunctional thoughts system. Some of the elements that can unleash depression are:

  • Traumatic events
  • Affective lost
  • Social isolation
  • Illness
  • Hormone problems
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms that are mentioned here, will give you the opportunity to identify depression symptoms that you may possibly present, if there are more than three, we recommend you to talk to a mental health expert for advise and to improve you quality life. COGNITIVE: uselessness thoughts, insufficient self- esteem, concentration difficulties, memory problems, suicide and death thoughts, loss of pleasure in activities, loss in life meaning, negative thoughts about yourself, others and the world. BEHAVIORAL: tiredness, slow mobility, inactivity, low sexual activity, social isolation, decrease in effectiveness and frequency in activities. PHYSICAL: absence or increase of sleep, absence or increase of appetite, energy absence, easy crying. EMOTIONAL: irritability, rage, abandoned feeling, loss of hope in the future, sadness, guilty.
KIND OF DEPRESSION:
The kinds of depression can vary depending on the number of symptoms and the intensity. It is worth mentioning that each of the episodes can be classified in light, moderate and serious.
